Rakim Hasheem Allen was born on December 9, 1991, in the Germantown neighborhood of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania with parents and was primarily raised by his mother due to his father being murdered when he was 3 years old. In his teen years, he lived in Northeast Philadelphia. He grew up listening to rapper 2Pac and R&B group Jodeci. From 1995 through 1996, Rakim recorded several demos/songs by himself, and in 1997 released The 18th Letter. Two years later he also released The Master which, along with The 18th Letter was very well received. This is perhaps the first performance where he is billed as Rakim. He said that Rakim was involved in a motor vehicle accident on his way and while Rakim suffered no injuries he will not be able to make it to Washington DC. He might not be topping the bills these days, but no true hip hop fan would pass up the opportunity to see him; hes one of the genres genuine icons.
